A parish church has been in existence in Castle Camps since the start of the 12th century. The current church though dates back to the 15th century.

During the Second World War, Castle Camps was among the many parts of East Anglia that played home to an RAF station. In the village, the station was located on a plateau to the south-east of the castle. RAF Castle Camps, established in September 1939, operated as a satellite for RAF Debden and RAF North Weald. It was closed in January 1946.
