Flower Delivery to Dalston by Clare Florist

Dalston is a district of north-east London in the Borough of Hackney . It is about 4 miles northeast of Charing Cross and is one of the 35 major centres located in greater London. The area extends west from London fields and hackney village to the Kingsland road and Kingsland high street over Parkroad to the north from the shoreditch parish boundary.

The town probably derived its name from dedrlaf’s tun or farm in 1294 just as Hoxton, its nearby town was named after the farm of ‘Hoch’. The village was one of the small villages of the Hackney parish that were grouped for assessment reasons. In AD1280, a leper hospital was founded by the citizens of London in Dalston and by AD 1549, It was attached as an outhouse to the chapel of St. Bartholomew. With the coming of the railways and continuous building, the area began to experience rapid development that by 1859, it had surpassed its neighbors, the village of Kingsland.

Dalton has been one of London’s entertainment hubs for many years boasting up to five cinemas within a mile, a theatre, music hall an d lots more facilities. There was a proliferation of rock venues in the 1970’s and 1980’s, one of which today hosts the vortex jazz club.

Dalston has attracted thousands of immigrants over the years and was once a popular settlement for Jewish immigrants from central Europe. It was later a predominantly Caribbean community after the Jews gradually moved out. It wasn’t long before the Caribbean’s where replaced by the Turks. Today there is a gradual increase in the polish population which is evident in the predominance of polish stores and delicatessens. Dalston was once claimed to be “the coolest place to live in Britain” in an April 2009 Guardian article.
