Flower Delivery to Blackwood with Clare Florist

Blackwood is a town and electoral ward that’s part of the administrative area of the Caerphilly County Borough and is home to high-tech firms as well as light industrial companies. Located on the Sirhowy River, Blackwood belongs to the South Wales Valleys and is part of Monmouthshire, one of the thirteen historic counties of Wales.

If you’re thinking of holidaying in South Wales, why not choose Blackwood? It might not be the most popular destination in the area, but it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re tired of the hustle and bustle in the big city and are in need of a new environment.

A Blast from Blackwood’s Past
Blackwood was founded in the 19th century by John Hodder Moggridge, who owned a local colliery. Moggridge built the first few houses in the area because he wanted to create a model village.

Despite Moggridge’s attempt, Blackwood soon fell into a downward economic spiral during the Industrial Revolution. The poor working conditions paved the way to Chartism, and the South Wales chapter of the Chartists centred on Blackwood. The area soon became the meeting place of Chartist leaders, and it was where a large number of insurgents gathered before they marched to Newport. The movement eventually failed, which led to the deportation of the leaders to Tasmania, Australia.

Over the years, Blackwood became home to well-known personalities. Henry Morgan, a privateer who eventually became the Governor of Jamaica in the 1600s, was believed to have been born in Blackwood. Evan James, who composed the Welsh national anthem together with his son, hailed from Bedwellty, Monmouthshire, an ancient parish that now corresponds to Blackwood and surrounding areas.

Things to Do in Blackwood
If you’re spending your holiday in Blackwood, one of the things you should do is to explore the local landmarks. These include the Chartist Bridge, which was designed by multinational firm Arup and opened to the public on December 2005. The suspension bridge is 227 meters long and connects the east side of the Sirhowy Valley to the west. Take some time to admire the bridge’s architectural design, then check out the Chartist statue which stands on the east side and commemorates the Chartist struggle in the area.

To enjoy quality entertainment, visit the Blackwood Miners Institute, which hosts operas, plays, and other arts and entertainment activities. It’s a great place to enjoy quality performances from musicians, dance companies, theatre experts, and other artists and enjoy a fun evening with your loved ones.

If you want to get up close and personal with nature, visit the nearby parks and gardens. Parc Penallta and Parc Cwm Darran are just a few kilometres away, and they give you the chance to go on a relaxing stroll, see the beauty of Blackwood flowers in the spring, and enjoy marvellous views of the surrounding countryside.
