Flower Delivery to Gwent by Clare Florist
Gwent is a preserved county – areas in Wales used for ceremonial purposes of lieutenancy and shrievalty – in the southeast of Wales. Due to its status, the name Gwent is still retained as it is one of the preserved counties of Wales.
Gwent was formed in April 1, 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972. It was named after the ancient Kingdom of Gwent. It was a successor to the administrative county of Monmouthshire and the county borough of Newport. However, it was abolished on April 1, 1996 under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994.
The name Gwent remains so because it is one of the preserved counties of Wales. In fact, it is still present in titles such as the Gwent Police, Royal Gwent Hospital, Gwent Wildlife Trust, Coleg Gwent College, and the Newport Gwent Dragons rugby team.
It is also used as a synonym for the historic county of Monmouthshire thanks to its similarity to the area. The Gwent Family History Society even describes itself as “The key to roots in the historic county of Monmouthshire.”
There are a variety of places to see Gwent flowers, eat at award-winning food places, and of course visit historic sights. With that said, here are some of the best places to visit when you're in the area:
Abergavenny Food Festival – Basically it is an annual event, but it was awarded the Best Event at the National Tourism Award for Wales. It's a special occasion to celebrate local and regional farming, as well as food culture.
The Bell at Skenfrith – This is a romantic country hotel, accommodation, restaurant, and inn. It's one of the best places to celebrate an anniversary or special event with your partner. To make it even more special, you can send flowers to Gwent to surprise them. The restaurant was awarded with Best Places to Eat (pub category) by the National Tourism Awards for Wales.
The Old Station at Tintern – This establishment picked up an award for Best Places to Eat in the cafe category from the National Tourism Awards for Wales.
Veddw House Garden – Although there are lots of places to see flowers in Gwent, this is one of the most impressive. The place consists of two acres of garden and woodland. A visitor can simply relax by looking at the many different flowers in Gwent and enjoy what nature has to offer.
One look at the Gwent Wildlife Trust website will give you a look at the many wildlife preserves that the area has. The site even has a section dedicated to the “A-Z of Wildlife” where you can view the different flowers in Gwent, as well as the marine and animal life. On that note, here are a couple of the reserves you can visit:
Springdale Farm – This is a 45 hectare farm acquired for its grassland, and in particular, its set of hay meadows. The woodland of this farm offers one of the best displays of woodland flowers in Wales. Spring is usually the best time to see a lot of Gwent flowers, the variety of blooms range from violets, bluebells, wood anemones, early-purple orchids, and moschatels. When it comes to animal life, you can expect blackcaps, willow warblers, chiffchaffs, pied flycatchers, and redstarts.
If spring is for the flowers, it is during the summer months when the meadows are most spectacular. Species that come out during this time are common spotted orchids, common knapweed, tormentil, and pepper-saxifrage.
Beacon Hill – This place overlooks the very picturesque village of Trellech. Here, you get a chance to see wild ponies, as well as a couple of unusual birds like the nightjar. There is also a picnic bench on the track outside of the reserve that offers great views of the mountains of Gwent. It's a great spot for couples, where you can surprise your partner with flowers or send flowers to Gwent for an added touch of romance.
Magor Marsh – This place is a natural area of fenland on the Gwent Levels. Here, you can witness a variety of animal life which includes kingfishers, carrion crows, and cuckoos – just to name a few.
