HISTORY
Originally known as “the Quern,” the village got its name from the bridge that was constructed in 1828: the Kerne Bridge. The Kerne Bridge railway station used to operate in town but it closed down in 1959. It was located next to the bridge and served as an outdoor activity centre for quite some time before its current use as a private residence.
