Flower Delivery to Abbots Langley by Clare Florist

A civil parish and large village in Hertfordshire, Abbots Langley is an old settlement and home to more than 10,000 people. The village is just 5 miles or so from Watford and situated close to Colne River. It was once part of the Watford Rural District and economically speaking, is closely associated with Watford. It has been part of the Three Rivers district since 1974.
Brief Glimpse at its History

The first hints of human occupancy in Abbots Langley were recorded by Sir John Evans, a renowned archaeologist. As the village is located on a clay saucer covered by gravel layers, the supply of water has never been an issue in the area.

In 1086, Abbots Langley was already occupied by 19 families. The village was divided into 4 manors –Chambersbury, Hyde, Langleybury and Abbots Langley. In 1539, Henry VIII got hold of Abbots Langley and sold it to Sir Richard Lee. It was then bestowed by Francis Combe jointly to Trinity College, Oxford and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge in 1641. The manors of Chambersbury and Langleybury  passed through the Child and Ibgrave families and were given to Sir Robert Raymond in 1711. On his son’s death without any issue in year 1756, the Filmer family obtained the manors. Hyde was given to Edward Strong in year 1714, which was then passed to his daughter and then to Sir John Strange who left it to be a mutual property between his children as well as their descendents. The F.M. Nares & Co then acquired the manor of Hyde and sold it to British Land Company in year 1858.
