DESCRIPTION

Today, a series of cottages and a small terrace of houses extend along on Scottlethorpe Lane between Edenham, a modern village, and the site of the medieval chapel.

In the Domesday Book, Scottlethorpe is mentioned as Scachertorp within the Beltisloe Hundred. It consisted of three households and 1.3 ploughlands. Robert of Tosny was listed as the Lord of the Manor and Tenant-in-chief in 1086.

Medieval chapels existed in the area, with one being in Scottlethorpe while the others were scattered wider afield. Remains of a 12th-century chapel is part of a barn located at Manor Farm. The doorway of the barn is said to might not have come from the chapel, but from Vaudey Abbey, an English Cistercian abbey founded in 1147 by William, Count of Aumale, Earl of York, of which no remnant from its structure remains save for the earthworks.
