Flower Delivery to Stirlingshire with Clare Florist
Stirlingshire is a county in Scotland that’s located approximately on the central-lower portion of the country. It’s bordered by five other counties and has Stirling for its county town. As of 2001, it had 871 civil parishes. Parishes were set up to keep tabs on statistics and the census figures. The county is surrounded by lowlands and highlands, and has been called “the gateway to the highlands”.
Stirling once used to be the capital city of Scotland. The county has a recorded history dating back to 1130, when Stirling was one of the main royalty centres in the Kingdom of Scotland. King David I declared it to be a royal burgh.
Stirling Castle was built some time during the early 12th century. Many kings and queens have been crowned here. The castle was built on top of a volcanic plug so that it could have a good vantage point over the city. The castle is open to the public and there are guided tours offered.
The Battle of Stirling Bridge was held here, with William Wallace defeating the English in the 13th century, despite his army being vastly outnumbered. The National Wallace Monument was built in the 1860s to honour Sir William Wallace as a hero of the region. It’s exactly where the battleground used to be. You have the choice of viewing the monument from a distance, or walking up its 246 steps to the top to enjoy the view.
In 1890 the county was granted its own coat of arms by Lord Lyon King of Arms. It features a lion in the centre, with four stars signifying caltrops and spur-rowels (weapons), and on a black, white, and blue designed background. The coat of arms was to commemorate Scotland’s victory at the Battle of Bannockburn.
Blairlogie Park is located in Blairlogie, Stirling. It’s managed by the Historic Environment Scotland (HES) organisation and is actually a two story listed building surrounding by a green grassy garden with shrubs and bushes.
It took until 2002 for Queen Elizabeth the II to declare that Stirling now had the status of a city. When visiting the city, there is plenty to see and do here.
There is also much to see and do in Stirlingshire, offering some breathtaking views of city and countryside.
Dumyat Hill offers a great spot to go hiking. It’s not too steep so it’s great for all skill levels. Nature lovers will enjoy the walk, and the paths are clearly marked so you won’t get lost.
The Snowdrop Festival was held earlier this spring, with over five acres of gardens and woodland walks to explore. Gargunnock Estate was host to the event, with a walled garden covered in lovely snowdrop flowers. The flower bulbs have divided and spread over the years, so next year promises to be even more spectacular.
