Flower Delivery to Flowton with Clare Florist
Located south-west of Ipswich, Flowton is a small village where activity revolves around the church – coffee mornings, village events and of course, church services. The village is mostly rural farmland with a scattering of farm houses and a couple of new builds situated near the church.
From the 13th and 14th of June 2015, a wonderful display of Flowton flowers was showcased during the Flowton Open Gardens and Flower Festival. It was an event where visitors got to see a variety of flowers in Flowton thanks to several gardens (Riverdale, Bush Farm, Flowton Hall, Grove Cottage and Tanga Lodge, just to name a few) opening up for the public. The next flower event will be held in 2019 and you can check the official site for details and updates if you're interested.
HISTORY
Flowton derives its name from Flocctun, which means a flock of sheep or a sheep farm. The parish church, St Mary's, was built in the 13th century and today, it is a hub of activity, particularly fundraising events to support the village and the population.
The Flowton Priory was built in the village in 1525 and remained there for 400 years. It was moved to Harpenden, Hertfordshire brick by brick in 1928 because its owner had it deconstructed and reassembled. David Pinkey, a racing driver, bought the priory in 1994.
Between 1500 and 1700, the main jobs held in Flowton were yeomen and husbandmen. Agriculture became the primary focus in the early 1800s with a little concentration in retail trade.
