Flower Delivery to Bradford-On-Avon by Clare Florist
Located in west Wiltshire, England, Bradford-on-Avon is a town known for its canal, historic buildings, shops, pubs, and restaurants. This isn't like the other Bradford, which is up North and mostly known for its curries. This Bradford is much older and holds such age-old beauty that really comes to life during Christmas time. It is located just a few minutes from Bath, which may get all the tourists, but those who prefer a town that brings back medieval memories will love what Bradford-on-Avon has to offer.
The history of Bradford-on-Avon can be traced back to Roman origins. There are several buildings that date back to the 17th century around the town. The rise of these buildings was due to the thriving English woollen textile industry. The buildings range from weaver's cottages to grand clothiers' houses.
The origins of the town's name stems from “Broad-Ford” as the centre of the town grew up around the ford right across the river Avon.
On 2 July 1643, the town was the site of a fight during the English Civil War which the Royalists participated. They took control of the bridge when they were on their way to the Battle of Lansdowne.
